Readers’ most hated online dating cliches
I’ve been using one of the major dating sites, OkCupid, on and off for about five years now. While it has its perks, being a woman on a dating site means immersing yourself in a disgusting cesspool of exposed nerves, unfiltered testosterone, and daily propositions to engage in sex acts so horrifying, I hadn’t even heard of them before, and I’m from the Internet. I got the feeling that a lot of men on that site would message literally any woman who had a profile, but the optimist in me wanted to believe that there was a limit.
Maybe there was a woman so awful, so toxic, so irredeemably unlikeable that no one would message her, or if they did, at least they would realize they never, ever wanted to meet her.
McDermott went to the victim’s house and while there raped the young girl. He then arranged to meet the victim a second time, after asking her to return headphones he had left at her house. They later met at a subway near to her home before going to a field where he raped and sexually assaulted the girl. The second victim, then 14, was attacked in August after she had complained to McDermott on Facebook that she couldn’t get anyone to buy cigarettes and alcohol for her from a local shop.
He immediately volunteered to help out and got her two bottles of vodka, and a pack of cigarettes. But he also said he expected sex in return. The girl drank an entire bottle of vodka before going into Agecroft Park with him, where they had sex. McDermott was arrested by police in August last year after complaints against him had been made by one of the girls.
Then, while still on bail for offences against two of the three, he went on the following October to commit offences against his third victim, a year-old girl he again met through Facebook, befriending her and arranging to meet her in a park in Irlams O’Height where he engaged in sexual activity with her. The court heard McDermott, an only child, was ”less mature emotionally and socially than expected for his age.
A fact he knew full well but chose to ignore for his own sexual gratification.

Feb 12, · Online dating can produce some of the worst dates ever. The last guy I went out with brought a sock puppet–a sock puppet–on our date and tried to talk to me with it. To be cute, I think.
Mainly because I very rarely have bad dates. A friend of a colleague was online dating. So when she started chatting to a particularly attractive guy, she began to get nervous. He just seemed too good to be true. He was model-gorgeous, and a wealthy high-flier, and every online search simply revealed more and more good stuff. Where was the catch? To calm herself down, she went for a pre-drink with a friend. Except she ended up drinking an entire bottle of red wine.
As predicted, when she finally met the guy, he was everything he had promised to be, and more.
